San Tan Community Performing Arts History

Co-Founders of STCPA
Matthew and Betty Frable

San Tan Community Performing Arts presenting musical and theatrical entertainment and education to our community for our 12th season 2017-18

San Tan Chorale as the first branch of STCPA was launched in the fall of 2006 with 29 members. Spring 2016’s membership reached 65 and annual masterwork sessions have reached close to 100. All totaled, over 350 members have performed with the chorale. As the last note resounds in the winter of 2018, the chorale will have sung sixty-eight performances. Along with tour concerts members of the chorale have performed well over 100 concerts.

San Tan Orchestra Gifted instrumentalists have always accompanied and enhanced the Chorale’s concerts including works by Schubert, Haydn, Mozart, Bach, Vivaldi, Beach, and Rutter. It is a unique opportunity to perform these master works. In October of 2010 the San Tan Orchestra performed its first stand-alone premiere concert under the direction of Brian Viliunas and Katherine Shields conducted through two seasons including the presentation of delightful premier compositions. Matthew Frable lead a rousing presentation of well-known overtures and underscores during STCPA’s tenth anniversary season and directs the orchestra and chorale in annual masterwork concerts. In 2017, we added in-home chamber concerts offering a comfortable and intimate setting for this ensemble music.

San Tan Players, the theatrical branch of STCPA, gave it first performances in January 2010 with their debut performance of the jovial farce “A Ring of Truth” at the first Madrigal Feaste and appeared again with “Three Jesters in the Fountain” for 2011’s second Madrigal Feaste. The Players will hit the boards again this season for their first Holiday Madrigal Feaste in November 2015 presenting “A Holiday Fruitcake & Other Matters of Substance.”  Spring of 2018 original 1 act play “Cyrano & Juliet” along with popular recitations with the presentation of Dramatic Delights

San Tan Travelers This branch of our organization tours with our membership, other community choirs, instrumentalists, dramatists, and their guests. Thus far participants have taken five tours and two more are planned for the summer of 2018 and 2019. In touring we are serving as ambassadors to all bringing our culture and fine arts to the world while we are being enriched by cultural diversity, shared performance, and educational opportunities. Our tours have been to Hawaii celebrating its 50th year of statehood, Washington, DC joining in Memorial Day commemorations, Washington, DC and Gettysburg, PA to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, Salzburg, Austria for the 50th anniversary of the movie premiere of The Sound of Music, Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland with seven chorale performances in castles, an abbey, and St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin.

STCPA Community Events have included participation of members of the chorale and orchestra in performances for Sister's Christmas Catechism, the Chandler Symphony Orchestra Holiday Concert, Maricopa County's 12k's of Christmas, San Tan Mt. Regional Park’s Wonderland, Gateway Airport’s Aviation Days, a Memorial Day concert, and the Florence 4th Parade and Concert, holiday caroling at Childsplay. As part of educating the community, STCPA hosted a Choral Camp in June of 2014 teaching the basics of music theory and vocal technique. A Master Class for vocalist was presented by gifted soloist and vocal instructor Georgine Stark in May of 2016. Tune-up & Treats in 2017-18 season offer five free choral evenings with opportunities for singing and education of music appreciation open to everyone. Other free concerts have included the Bon Voyage concerts prior to tour events.
